- To create Malaysia's own shopping seasons
- To make Malaysia Asia's No. 1 shopping destination
- To be one of the leading international shopping destinations
| | Backgound :-- Due to the economic slow down, the Goverment decided to give emphasis to tourism industry to help improve the economy.
- Shopping was identified as one of the products to help boost the nation's economy
- A National Steering Committee for Mega Sale Canival was formed on 12 June 2000 chaired by YB Minister of Culture, Arts and Tourism to organise and coordinate all activities nationwide.
- The committee members of the State Tourism EXCOs, Secretary Generals of relevant Ministries, goverment agencies and the private sectors.
- Steering Committee meeting on 5th July 2002 has agreed to formed a Shopping Malaysia Secretariat to look into the implementation of Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival
- The Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival is held three times a year which is on the month of March, August and December for year 2000-2004.
- Beginning year 2005, The Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival will be held only once every year, which is on the month of August
